Public Servants Doing Public Service at Forum 2015

NIGP is proud and passionate to participate in two community service activities at this year’s Forum. Volunteers are needed to assemble personal care kits on behalf of Heart to Heart International, and snack bags for Ronald McDonald house families.

  • Assemble Heart to Heart Personal Care Kits – the first line of defense against the spread of illness.

The vision of Heart of Heart is to imagine a world in which every person has access to a healthy life and every community has the capacity to make that access a reality.

Personal hygiene is one of the top needs for people struggling with the unexpected loss of shelter, food and water due to disaster. Heart to Heart Care Kits offer that first line of defense against the spread of illness and is a first step toward good health. They provide dignity in a small bag for those who have suffered during crises.

  • Create Ronald McDonald House Healthy-to-go Snack Bags – helping to reduce the burden of worrying about food on children and their families.

The mission of Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is to create, find and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children. They believe when you change a child’s life, you change a family’s which can change a community and, ultimately, the world.

RMHC cannot cure a child, but it can alleviate the worry and expense of finding a close, comfortable and affordable place for a family to stay while their child receives the medical care they need. NIGP is proud to partner with RMH Charities of Kansas City. Volunteers are needed to create snack bags for families to enjoy a healthy meal. These families are constantly on the go and the last thing they need to worry about is food. Families can take these healthy-to-go snack bags with them from the houses to the hospital.

These community service activities will take place on August 4 from 4:30PM to 6:00PM during the reception in the Exhibit Hall.  Take some time to stop by and offer a few minutes of your time to help us assemble 1000 care kits and 100 snack bags!

Special thanks to the NIGP Business Council for once again supporting this effort!  Their support allows NIGP to purchase the items needed to assemble the kits, as well as make a monetary contribution to each charity.
