Transitions

Transitions are inevitable. Whether we self-inflict or have it done to us, we are all in a constant state of flux. As I get older I am less likely to cause my own changes but "by golly" it does feel good when a change is planned and we had something to do with it. It doesn't feel so good when it is a relative surprise.

Recently, our Statewide HR office decided that we are to accept changes made to the salary structure and job titles. At first glance this would seem to be a volatile issue that should have been discussed with managers at all levels before implementation. Nevertheless, in a state with over 70 thousand employees this may have been a logistic impossibility. So implementation was mandated. Now, we as managers are requested to implement and acquiesce the masses in such a manner that diminishes the disgruntled. So why is this being blogged? Maybe it's mostly a form of venting on my part. However, I was thinking how many times have we as procurement offices implemented changes with little fanfare or announcement. Hopefully this does not occur in your agency with much frequency. Bottom line is let's avoid that feeling or causing a feeling of despair to our clients.
